A premium-looking bottle is not proof of a premium product. Quality starts with traceability: who made it, what is inside it, whether the label is complete, whether the product is appropriate for sale in Nigeria and whether the seller makes responsible claims.
1. Check who made it
Look for a clearly identified manufacturer, country of origin and contact information. Established brands should be traceable beyond a marketplace listing.
2. Read the full label
Look for ingredient quantities, serving size, directions, warnings, batch information, expiry date and storage instructions. If the label hides the basics, that is a reason to be cautious.
3. Verify regulatory information
NAFDAC maintains a registered-product database. Where a product is represented as NAFDAC-registered, verify the details rather than relying only on an image or seller claim.
4. Be sceptical of medicinal promises
Nigeria’s 2025 Dietary Supplement Regulations state that dietary supplements must not bear medicinal claims. Claims to cure, treat or permanently fix disease-like conditions are therefore a serious red flag.
5. Buy from a traceable seller
A good retailer should have identifiable company details, contact information, clear returns or customer-service processes and a way to answer product questions.
